Why Wisconsin Music Ventures; Why Now?

WImusicventures_stackedlogoIt’s happening, it’s in the works – programming is going to be determined and publicized shortly. Wisconsin Music Ventures is a real thing, you guys – and it is going to be extraordinary.

The state of Wisconsin features a ton of gorgeous spaces – many of which are natural, outdoors… others are perhaps inside, and historic. Some are indoors and brand new – better yet, maybe a mix of the old and contemporary!

We have some hidden gems of natural wonders out there, in areas that are a bit more off the beaten path. They’re not huge, so they’re not obvious. I want to find them, plant some musicians there for a while, and encourage more appreciation of such scenes – while simultaneously bestowing music appreciation.

Why WMV, Why Now?

As a hornist I’ve really worked on “getting out there” in recent years… but I’m a little late to the game. I should’ve ideally done this, well, 15 years ago when I was in college and well-equipped: great teachers and mentors, great university, great program, in a great area. The student simply did not have great focus.

Now, I’m ready. But I’ve wondered, as much as I love classical music and symphonic repertoire, is that really what is meant for me? I’ve taken auditions, and done well with some. I just don’t know if it’s really the model for me… it doesn’t always seem to fit.

Also, I’ve been somewhat cursed with seemingly unrelenting medical issues that have affected how reliably I can commit to gigs as a hornist (and occasionally piano – tried some hard accents yesterday, man – did that shake up my not-yet-recovered core!).

What I can do is organize events. I love to be outside, or checking out fun new places and spaces in the area. I enjoy listening to live music just as much as playing.

Thus, Wisconsin Music Ventures was born. I will schedule myself to play as I’m able, occasionally; in the meantime I do know there are lots of other amazing musicians in this area. I’ll incorporate classes so as to have exciting playing and learning opportunities for my private student base, and others.

Plus, I have some outdoor/adventure loving friends around who may like the idea of having something new to try out. 😉

In the words of The Black Eyed Peas, “Let’s Get It Started!”

P.S. Follow how this is all going to shake out via WMV social media, listed here. I’m using the hashtag #WMVbeginnings for, well, all the cool early stuff that’s happening!
